Clustered Random Sampling

Also called multistage sampling, this method first randomly chooses geographical areas, called clusters, and then surveys either all or a sample of those in the chosen clusters.

The Census Office has already divided the town into twenty enumeration districts, each containing an average of of about 552 citizens. Each of the enumeration districts can be used as a cluster for sampling.
