Sophie began her doctoral research in the School of Social Policy, Sociology, and Social Research at the University of Kent in 2015. Prior to this she completed her MA in Modern History 1500- 2000 (2015) at the University of Kent and BA (Hons) at Canterbury Christ Church University in History and Religious Studies (2014). Whilst studying for her PhD she also studied for a PGCert in Methods of Social Research (2016).​ Sophie’s research is driven by her interests in qualitative research methods, including interviews, ethnography and sensory studies. She has recently submitted her doctoral research which developed the ‘deindustrial body’ as a concept for understanding the process of deindustrialisation within the former Kent coalfield. This research aimed at considering the relationships between occupational health, class, community and body theory within the context of industry decline.
