Visualizing data

When doing research, gathering data is only the first step. It may take a lot of effort but without analysis there would be no research. And then you need to present your results in a way that is easy to understand. Creating visual representation of the data can help in the research process, during the analysis or when presenting the results. Everyone is familiar with bar charts and pie charts but, what other options are available and how can you get the best out of them? The seminar is about the principles of visualization. Although some tools will be mentioned, no technical background is required. During the session we will review some design tips and tricks, review some basic representations for qualitative and (principally) quantitative data, and identify typical problems.
