SKIN 4 Workshop and SKIN Summer School
Training School of KnoweScape – COST Action TD1210
Simulating Knowledge Dynamics – Training and Work in Progress
Federico II University, Naples, Italy, 19–22 May 2015
This four day event combines the presentation and discussion of progress in simulating knowledge dynamics with a summer school on SKIN concepts, methods and operational skills. The workshop / training school will take place at Federico II University, Naples (Italy), from 19 to 22 May 2015 and is supported by COST as Training School of the COST Action KnowEscape http://knowescape.org.

An introductory day with high-level experts in the field of simulating knowledge dynamics. Experts will give lectures on central topics important for young researchers (conceptual issues, data-to-model, verification and validation etc.)
Two days of teaching and training with two strands for early career researchers: Strand 1 (for Beginners) a “Starter kit” for SKIN modellers: basic concepts, basic applications, how-to- get-started, programming; Strand 2 (more Advanced) “Work in progress” of knowledge dynamics models: presentation and discussion of own projects with experts in small groups; advice and guidance on own projects
A concluding day with plenary presentations and discussions of results, progress made, next steps, outlook of the field
This CfP invites two types of participant:
For Strand 1, we look for early career researchers who plan to use SKIN and similar simulations and want to acquire basic knowledge about how to get started. There are no requirements concerning disciplinary background or prior knowledge to apply to this Strand. other than an open mind and a willingness to get involved in interdisciplinary thinking.
For Strand 2, we look for early career researchers who have already started on a simulation project in the area of simulating knowledge dynamics and who want to discuss their work with experts in the field. A group of participants (max. 8) and experts will discuss the simulation project of each participant (presentation phase) and form small parallel discussion groups based on any desired topic (discussion phase). There is no requirement concerning the state of advancement of the project (first year, second year, close-to-end) or the qualification level it addresses (Master thesis, PhD, postdoc).
Further information about the SKIN model is at http://agent-based-modeling.com/SKIN/
Abstract Submission (Strand 2)
Expression of Interest (Strand 1)
Both types of participants need to attend for the whole duration of the event (four days).
There are about 15 grants for participants through the COST Action KnowEscape (which pays a grant of about 940 EUR). Places are limited. Please clearly indicate with your application whether you also apply for funding and whether your application concerns Strand 1 or Strand 2 of the event.
SKIN Book Launch
The workshop will use the opportunity to launch the second SKIN book Simulating the Knowledge Dynamics of Innovation Networks that will have been just published by CambridgePublishers. There will be a book launch event on the evening of the second day.
Abstract submission: 14th January 2015
Notification of acceptance: 19th February 2015
